Hi, just noticed this morning the headlight adjuster thing that adjusts the beam up or down doesn't work on the driver side headlight, are the common to fail and does anybody have any experience with these, or is it just a case of a New headlight unit

Cheers

Are they manual or electrical, a broken manual one means new head light but the electric motors can just be swaped

They electrical, the ones where you just turn the dial next to the headlight controls

You can just swap the electric motor, they just twist and pull out, there hard to pull out

been down the scrapyard and got a replacement adjustment motor, was a bugger to pull out but the replacement went in much easier, works but i noticed when activating the adjustment in only dips around 50% the distance of the n/s headlight, but sound like the motor is still turning..

is there something ive not aligned properly, or is it not correctly inserted, i was expecting the ball joint on the replacement motor to kinda pop into place with some pressure but it just kind of easily went into place.. ive got a Haynes manual but its not much use on the subject

Found this on anorher forum so dont know if it works but worth a try

Hi you need to put the motors fully up and then fully down - disconnect the new one and raise the other - then fit the new and raise it fully - do the same again but lower them = this should reset them both to the same movement

Makes sense, I'll give it a try, I just presumed if both headlights themselves where in the up position, when putting the new motor in, they would be OK, didn't think the motor had an up position as well

managed to get it done, just for future reference if anybody else has same problem, couldn't manage to do it following the instructions you found johnny, but they did point me in the right direction.. anyway ended up putting both beams down, then using the manual adjuster at the back of the motor wound the replacement motor all the way up as far as it would go, this makes the beam go all the way up as well then wound it back down again manually using the manual adjuster but stopped winding as soon as the winding stopped moving the beam down, now the beams go up and down together. so think its ok now

cheers as usual johnny
