Exhaust issue

Hey again guys!!

Finally got the old beast running as needed to find my exhaust was blowing in the middle on a joint in-between boxes(sort of underneath the front seats).Took it to my mates and jacked it up to find that the "u" brackets was almost completely corroded and the pipe wasn't joined that well and it was passing there.

So we got a new bracket cleaned up both ends of the pipe and re-sealed with gum and the new bracket.

All good...so I thought.

When we tried to put the other end back into the rubber bracket thingy's its really, really tight. Its like I need another 10mm or so to get them on good. We got them on but only just and tied them on with jubilee clips. Driving home was fine but today there is a horrific knocking noise from under the car.

Any ideas??

Maybe the rubbers are that tight there's no flex for the exhaust?
Shall I get a flexi part and fit it in the middle. And/or buy some bigger rubbers??

Any suggestions guys??

If the answer would be a flexi, what diameter pipe should I use and would I need to get it welded on?

Many thnxs !!

Is it the orginal exhaust or replacment? Was it the right replacement ? Knocking was prob be exhaust hitting axle

not sure if it is an original exhaust as the fixints pins (that's what I call em) aren't quite in line with each other

btw this was already on the car when I brought it..it does look quite newish tbh so no it probably isn't the original and some cheap aftermarket thing I suppose/

Yeah but it did fit before you touched it ? Try hammer it back for the extra room, with a rubber mallet not steel

yea but the joint that I had to move to replace the u ring was only just about inside each other so I had to pull it back a bit to make a better connection

like somebody else has said is it rattling against the rear axle, needs to be quite a bit of clearance above the axle or as soon as there is some weight in the car the back end sits down and it will rattle like a ******, maybe with you re-aligning it so to speak the clearance is now not enough

By u ring do you mean where it goes over the rear axle or at the cat mid pipe joint

I think the exhaust just needs hit forward
