Can I replace my 1.4 16V with a 1.6 + any idea why it died??

Backstory time!! I was travelling home last night when my engine started tapping, it sounded aa though something was catching in the engine. I kept driving but even with my foot to the floor she wouldn't go past 60mph. Then the tapping got louder, the oil pressure light came on and the entire engine cut out. I got taken to the services where we put more oil in the engine and tried to turn it over again, but it wouldn't start then it sounded as if something fell off under the bonnet

It's a Corsa B Sport 1.4 16V, W reg

So questions:
1. Any ideas as to why my car broke?
2. If worst comes to worst + I need to replace my engine, would I be able to replace it with a 1.6 16V??

Cheers

Laura :)

As to why it stopped, it sounds as if your pistons had a fight with your valves,

The 1.6 yes it bolts straight in

Hi Laura welcome your best idea is to weigh the costs if the engine replacement is cheaper go for that option but if u are converting anyway i wud just replace it.
