Cleaning Pistons & Valves

Just a quick question guys what's your opinions on best stuff to use ?
Been told brillo pads & ISOPROPYL is the best

Would a brillo pad not score the pistons?

Brilo pad is the only thing I've seen anyone use
You can't clean them while in the engine though, you have to drop the crankshaft and pull them out and make sure there 100% bone dry before re fitting and same goes for the valves

I have use a bench mount wire wheel to clean them
Then the valve in a drill with a bit of emery paper to clean the steam of the valve and an old piston ring to get the crud out of the piston ring groves
But as said before they need to be removed first
