I think my corsa 1.4 8v engine is knackered the tappets rattle and my head gasket has blown twice within a year.

Can anyone surgest anything.

I\'m thinkin new engine something like a 1.6 16v but that is a last resort as it will bump up my insurnace.

twice within a yr, blimey that is bad luck. have you got any blue smoke coming out the exhaust where the oil is getting past piston rings? if so could be new engine time.... thats when i gave up!
are you sure tappets are really bad? i remember always thinking mine were making alot of noise, but they were fine (alll in my head)
problem is you always expect something to go wrong after a problem like headgasket :(

havn\'t really noticed any blue smoke but this time when the head gasket went the engine has started to rattle violently and sounds just like a go-kart.

NOT GOOD

oh dear, J1400 is pretty good with this kind of stuff. sound like a compression problem, have you taken it to a garage for there opinion? who done the gasket?

it\'s in the garage now getting the head gasket changed. He guy who is doing it now seems to think the engine should be ok but you know what machanics can be like (No offence to any machanics out there).

nah that inst bad actually, ud need a new loom and ECU, and possibly the drive shafts for it. id give it a go if the cars still fooked when you get it back, my major regret is that i didnt fit my engine myself :(

how easy/hard is it to fit a new engine. Is it quite a complex job?

I did the 1.6 conversion on mine. It really isn\'t that difficult. You will be able to use your current driveshafts and hubs etc aswell. For a basic engine swap you\'ll need the engine, loom, ecu, transponder, and key chip (just make sure the ecu transponder and key chip are all from the same car).

not much more on top of your price for your engine, prob get it all for bout £300 if u shop around, i paid £400 for everything including gearbox, hubs, discs, shafts (even though i didnt use any of them).
