Massive loss of power and ECU comes on

Post by formula1vauxhall »

Hi there 8) 8) 8) 8)
Driving the other day at around 60mph, felt the engine lost power for around 3 seconds and a few seconds later the ecu light came on. Light stayed on for around 3 seconds and went off.
Managed to get the car home in one piece, this happened around 30-40 times in 15miles of traveling.
(a) Loss of power for 3 seconds
(b) Power returned
(c) ECU light came on for around three seconds and then off again.
Car would be alright for around 30 seconds and then the same thing again. :meh: :meh: :meh:
It happened when the car was lightly loaded, so I thought.
Have previously fitted new crankshaft sensor, Bosch MAF sensor and new ECU water temperature sensor (in the last 3 years)
Car is a Corsa B, 1999, 1.2 16v x12E engine, 92K on the clock.
Any ideas anyone?????
Will order a ECU code reader this week to try and diagnose the problem, although not sure if you can read the code if the ECU light has gone off.
Thanks

Hello again
Just tested the OP-COM code reader to my car a few minutes ago.
It shows a Pernament code P0505 (1) Idle air control voltage high.
Any ideas what the fault could be?

When you apply a bit of throttle when parked and then throttle off the engine speed would go up and down by itself!!!
Hope this will jog someone's memory
Thanks

Sounds like the idle air control valve is sticking and may need cleaning

Success

Bought a brand new Bosch idle air valve, part number 90531999.
Fitted the part, re-connected the battery and started the engine. Fantastic, no ecu warning light. Went for a 20 mile run to allow the ECU to properly re-set and the engine to warm up, no-misfire, runs sweet as a nut.
The limit switch in the old air idle valve must have gone open circuit when the valve limit was met, hence no feedback for the ECU. {P0505 (1) Idle air control voltage high}
I'm happy, but since this was my wife's car she isn't. Hence the new car has to wait for now.
Thanks
Again to the forum.
