Timing belt tensioner issues - 1.7d

Hi there, just wondering if anyone can help me out of a bit of a pickle....
I've been changing the timing belt on my 1.7d corsa. I've got the belt on but can't get it to tension and it attempting to do so I've jumped a few teeth and am pretty sure the timing is now out. Its a different tensioner to the one in the manual ... fig A in this link http://www.universalautomotive.com/uplo ... TB4141.pdf and it is attached by a main bolt and another that also attaches the engine mounting.
So after failing so far I'm guessing maybe the engine braket needs to go back on before tensioning the belt but that doesn't look like it will happen very easily and I'll also need to put on another couple of bits back on.
I was hoping someone might be able to give me some advise on using this tensioner and how I can get the timing straightened out without damaging anything?
Thanks!
