Ecu fault

My car is running lumpy when I start it, it's been to 3 garages cause engine management light is on and none of the computers will connect to my ecu what could this be ?

Most code readers won't read it because its pre obd11
It uses the old tech1 software
You can read them by using opcom
Sounds like an egr valve sticking and if it is they are aping to do
