My dashboard lights have gone out, I have checked the fuse and its fine, there is power to the fuse terminals, and the radio works (i believe it's a shared fuse) . I don't know what else to check. Any ideas are gratefully received

and will this fail the mot? I have the retest booked for tomorrow

I'm thinking it may be an issue with how the stereo is wired up. When I removed the old stereo the back was a mess of twisted wires and insulation tape. Several colours were crossed over. I arranged it as I thought it should be but can anyone confirm that I have the colours going to the correct terminals?

only the power wires, I'm sure all the speaker wires are fine

The red, yellow, and black are the only ones I need to know really as the orange and blue wires aren't used. I must have the red (ignition live) and yellow (constant live) correct as the stereo is working perfectly with the ignition. So I'm guessing perhaps the black (earth) is in the wrong terminal. Anyway, if someone knows that could confirm either way it would be amazing, thanks

Are you saying I have the red and yellow in the wrong terminals? The terminal with the yellow wire in is constant live, and the terminal with the red wire in is only live when the ignition is on. With those wires in those terminals the stereo works properly so I don't think those could be wrong

Are you talking about the colours of the wires in the car? Because I can't see those so I don't know which terminal has which colour wire.

All I can go off is the position of the terminals. The colours that you see in the photo are from the stereo

I appreciate you putting those up, but I recognize absolutely nothing on there haha. Do you know if it states what terminal is what?

Ok after a lot of internet trawling I have pieced together what each terminal is.... I think

Can anyone tell me what the illumination terminal does? Did the original stereo adjust the brightness of the dash lights perhaps? My stereo doesn't have that terminal in use so I have left it open for now

These are the only 3 wires I have connected

Just a guess but I think the stereo dimmed with the dash lights

I think you could be right. I now think I'm barking up the wrong tree here and the fact the dash lights have gone out has probably nothing to do with the stereo

Silly question but you haven't knocked the dimmer right down have you?

If not then the dimmer switch could be something to look at as its highly unlikely all the bulbs would go at the same time!!
