Temp gauge mind blower

Real puzzle for anyone that wants to chime in

Temp gauge goes past the red every time it's driven but goes to actual running reading will clutch is engaged or in neutral but as soon as it's back in gear and moving it rises straight away

Cts was changed for known working one, earth was checked and wires aren't damaged, stat was also checked at the start before realising it's only a problem when moving

Heater blows hot and cold, with heater on full heat temp gauge stays full and no coolant or oil lose

I'm completely stumped, I think the only thing it could be is the gauge getting a signal from somewhere but can't figure where

I don't care how bizarre any ideas are just as long as there ideas [emoji38]

Is it going past the red when the car is rolling really slowly at low speed and revs? Id try swapping out the clocks.

If its rolling in gear without the clutch it rises

Never thought on swapping the clocks, will report back if it works

Id guess the traces on the back of the clocks got scratched and are crossing somewhere. Its probably rising with revs or something.

Clocks were never out though so can't see how they'd have got damaged, will swap them out tomorrow anyway and hopefully it sorts it

All sorted, swapped the clocks no difference so swapped them back and it's fixed [emoji38]

Sounds like a voltage regulator issue. Or the multi block was loose and you were getting cross talk. All that removing and replacing might have clipped the connector block back in properly or knocked the voltage regulator improving the connection. The voltage regulator controls voltage for both fuel and temperature gauges.Image. I would leave it now it's all working. If it's not broken...don't fix it

Fuel gauge wasn't effected but I imagine it was that or somthing similar

I'm not going to dig into anyway [emoji38] if I knew what I did to fix it I'd have a search but being blind luck I'll leave it well alone [emoji38]
