Corsa-B.uk - Vauxhall, Opel and Holden Corsa B Owners Club

Hi there

My sister has a 1litre T reg Corsa, last week a couple of the wires under the bonnet burned through and it broke down. We took it to the garage and they have told us part of the wiring loom is burnt. Apparently if it has burnt far back enough it will cost more than the car is worth (about £2000) to have it fixed, even if it has burnt a little way back it will still be expensive.

Has anyone else had this happen or does it sound like a realistic price to anyone? And do you reckon the insurance will write it off and pay out if we have to ditch it?

sounds quite expesnsive for what it is, maybe give vauxhall a ring see what they say, cause i can\'t see it being 2k for a wireing loom- just go scrappy...lol

Yeah thats what I thought, my mate said it wouldn\'t be that expensive if you got one from the scrappies only we\'d need to find why the wires were being burnt in the first place otherwise we\'d just end up with it happening again...

cant see that, that a bit dear the looms in the corsa just unplug and you can pull them throw the bulkhead etc, if you have patience you could do it your self all you would have to do is get a loom from a scrapped corsa

yeah as its a 1litre i cant see there being much demand for the engine, so you should be able to get a loom easy enough on its own, id say the most likely cause for the fire would be the cables shorting out, possibly due to corrosion etc.
give these a try, you could get an auto electrician too fit it at your house much cheaper than a big garage if you buy the loom. just look in yellow pages

Well we heard back from the garage, apparently the problem was a faulty starter motor which caused some of the loom wires to burn. The burning wasn\'t major so they can replace them within a couple of days (plus a new starter motor), but it\'s still going to cost a fair bit Thanks for your advice everyone!

im still abig fan of calling out a local bloke in a van from the yellow pages, i bet the bill would be half what you\'ll end up paying matey, worth phoning one up to come round and take a peek now you know the fault
