Hey,

Right here\'s my query, I\'m not sure if its my car or is it the same with all corsas.

Basically, my car gets around 35-40(40 being a rare occasion) miles to £5 worth of petrol..... Whats the crack with that when all my mates get around 50 miles, with a faster car! lol

Before you all ask, of course i flog it every now and again, but no way do i do it all the time..... what do you think it could be???

Cheers

Adam

(p.s. i do only have a 4-speed box, so no over-drive gear this could probably be the problem but not sure.....let me know please, cheers)

And also, its about average in terms of town use (i.e. stopping and starting) and motorway/dual carriage way use.

Is your car running rich? Check your spark plugs to see if they\'re black and sooty.

how do u mean rich?

The spark plugs were brand new about 10,000 miles ago lol....... so i suppose id better re-new them.

It seems like i didn\'t do them too long ago, but Ive done about 16,000 miles in 5months (since I\'ve past my test).

Ill have a look

Lol cos if you run out of petrol and then put £5 in then do 37 miles and then run out again thats how many miles you are doing. I know this is bad for your engine etc etc, but my pay hadnt gone in, and i only had a fiver on me on the way back from Sheffield, so i consequently ran out of petrol once, and then again. :(

As for me putting premium in.....i dont think ive ever put premium in my car lol, and neither have my mates. Petrol costs enough as it is! If i could afford to fill up with premium i wouldnt have a corsa

As for petrol prices increasing, i know they are, and so the amount of miles im getting is slowly dropping from 37 to about 34

My dads is back home soon, ill get him to teach me how to service my car lol, hes better at things like that than me.

mate u aint drivin a moped. £5 is nothing u need at least £10. my gsi if i boot it every were does about 50 or less miles if im lucky on a £10, mabe you should sell your car and goto the 1.0l 12v on paper they r quicker than your 1.2 8v and both my friends had them and the 1.0L 12v was always over taking him on the motor way, and around town. :)

i get roughly 150 miles to £20 and 250 to £30, thats with decat pipe, full s/s exhaust, boost valve and k & n airfilter.

also you think your car is bad on petrol, you have to think petrol prices are rising by the minute, so its not necesarily doing bad its just prices are too stupidly expensive and they have the cheek to raise car tax too

Air leaks, fuel leaks, faulty sensors, worn ignition system, engine timing... anything really.

Do the basic service - air/fuel/oil/pollen filter, change and gap the plugs, maybe change the leads and distributor rotor arm and cap too.

You can normally find someone on ebay that will sell you a full service kit, or speak to somewhere like AutoVaux or LMF and ask them to supply you with the service parts.
