brake upgrade advice

Hi peeps!

1995 Corsa B SRI

basically I\'m unhappy with the brakes, I\'ve had them fully checked over by a fully qualified mechanic

basically I was told \"There as good as they are going to be, you have rear drums and solid discs, they are never going to be brilliant without fitting bigger better brakes\"

The problem is brakes is one area I have NO clue about

Can any advise a cheap upgrade route?
Going to 17\'s in a couple of weeks so size of wheel should be too much of a problem

can any advise of a full kit to buy or what to buy second hand etc?

thanks peeps, I know its a disjointed post but I really have no clue about whats involved in changing brakes!

theres a few roads you can go down

lmf vauxhall do kits full things including calipers etc you could do that of look for a set od ate front calipers from a cavy gsi/sri astra gte 16 or calibra etc its basically a straight swop as long as you get the calipers, holders, discs and pads you will be fine and they will mate to your existing brake flexis, you could also fit goodrich braided flexis

Keep your eye on the forums for the ATE (pronounced Ah-tay) 2.0 16v setup that Davie\'s mentioned.
You can find them on the Mk2 and Mk3 Astra, Cavalier and Calibra and are sensible upgrade for the Corsa B.

It\'s really only the calipers you need as you should buy new discs and pads rather than fit someone elses.

Hello, ok most ppl fit the astra GTE brakes or V6 upgrade (both vented discs),

however my brother has a spare set of corsa GSi brakes & calipers for sale (vented discs & think its the same spec as Astra GTE brakes) wants £100 (id need to check on delivery cost)

though the mechanic was right in saying about solid discs, though vented discs do make a noticable difference,

the gsi brakes have 256mm discs, but they are not as waide as the ate ones, which means they will fade sooner due to lack of cooling, also the calipers are not as good, i have a v6 set up onemine with black diamond combi discs and undecided on pads, used ot have green stuff but im changing them..... v6 need 15\" wheels! ate need 14\" wheels.

Yeah but better than whats he\'s got (Broster sshhh i need money to buy your inlet :lol: )..

ive got a set of 2.0 16v caliper you can have for £20 but postage might be a pic im running turbo brakes now off a call

ebc are crap i used the drilled and grooved discs on my sri mated with there green stuf pads, what a waste of money that was, ended up was better upgrading to bigger brakes and ditch the ebc stuff, thats a few cars ive had the problem with never again will i buy there stuff, genuine gm all the way

EBC\'s performance brake disc castings are no stronger than standard items and they don\'t contain some magical compound to stop you any quicker.

All they offer is better heat dissipation which they do via the spottie blind drill holes and brake pad deglazing which they do with the grooves.

The #1 way you can improve your braking is to increase the surface area between disc and pad. All these people fitting EBC, Black Diamond, etc to make them stop quicker are fools - all they end up doing is warping or cracking the discs because they\'re driving harder, assuming the brakes can now take the abuse because they\'re \"performance items\".
