First things first, my car is due a cambelt, im just a bit confused coz alot of people have told me they are a mission to do, as the water pump works as the tensioner and it seizes up and can be a bugger to to get moving or even to replace it!!!! Is this true??
Does anyone know where the timing marks are??
Secondly my car makes a pinking noise at around 40 mph in forth (top gear) is this good, its not gonna blow up or anything is it??? is there anything i can do to rid myself of this noise??
Many thanks.

It would help if you mentioned which engine you have but I\'m guessing the 1.2 8v as you have a 4spd box.
Which means it\'s pretty simple to put a new one on £12 or so form your local motor factors.
Best thing to do is buy yourself the haynes manual and then have a look and see fi you think you can do it or not from the discription in there.

as for the timing make sure the timing marks on the outside of the metal camshaft sprockets are facing one another ( )--( ) kinda like that. BUT makes sure when you put the cam belt on the camshaft sprockets do not slip a tooth as this will mess the timing and ure valves will bend when you turn the engine over.

yeah it is a 1.2 8v sorry i neglected to mention it.
Thought the 1.2 8v was not an interference engine??? or is it??

as far as I\'m aware it\'s not an interferance engine, but if the timign marks are out it will run like a bag of w*ank
