Can someone please list all the modifications needed to fit a 1.6 16vlavle corsa engine into a 1.2 8v corsa and how difficult this would be. By the way im not interested in buying a diff car. CHeers

Engine, gearbox (but not essential), ecu, transponder, key chip, engine loom, different header bottle, and a new \'s\' bend hose for the radiator.
Optional extras include: driveshafts, hubs, brake discs, pads, new clutch, although none of these are really needed.
I got all of this for mine for 400. The full cost including this 400 once fitted went up to 600. This included a new clutch, fanbelt, oil, header bottle, hoses and £70 to a family friend for helping me.

how difficult would it be though and how much would someone charge to fit it do you recon with or without a new gearbox as mine has only 25k miles on it. Are 4 speeds ok though?

If your gearbox is only a 4 speed then your definately going to need the new gearbox aswell. If you have some knowledge of cars you should be able to fit in in around a week, probably even a lot quicker. As for cost wise I couldnt really give you an accurate idea as I had a family friend help out.

a Garage in Hull will supply and fit you a 1.6 8V engine for £300. the engines usually come from astra or cavvy.

You may aswell not get a 8v, you\'d be a lot better off getting a 16v from a corsa sport, that way its a newish engine, and plus theyre good enjoyable little engines. Although dont take my word for it cos i\'ve never owned a 1.6 8v.

not sure if its the same for vaux engines but generally
8v produce more torque at lower revs (better for twisty b roads
16v rev higher, power is gained higher in rev range better for a- m roads

Vauxhall Corsa B 1.2 8v ------------ > 45 BHP
Vauxhall Corsa B 1.4 16v ------------ > 90 BHP
Vauxhall Corsa B 1.4 8v ------------ > 60 BHP
According to this off corsa crazy theres quite alot of difference as to how much power each engine produces

1.6 16v - 106 (sport) or 109 (gsi)
Personally i\'d go for the 1.6 16v, you aint gonna regret it at all.

when actually taking out the engine using the engine crane. Can it be taken from the top or bottom as in the haynes manual it says for it to be removed from the car needs to be at least 650mm from the floor. As I havent got jack/axel stands cabable of this can it jus be lifted out. I also have access to a mechanics pit but would the crane support it being lowered this deep? I have to think ahead see

not a lot in it and u could pick up an sri very cheaply but with higher mileage
and as corsacant said:
1.6 16v ecotec 106 bhp
1.6 16v pre-ecotec 109bhp again can be bought very cheaply and the pre-ecotec gsi has a much better noise.

I have the later x16xe engine in mine and it does sound exremely good when putting your foot down.
The only problem with the c16xe engines (pre-ecotec) is that they had a problem with the heads coking up easy.
On the matter of lifting the engine out, it is advisable to drop the engine out the bottom, which shouldnt be that difficult if you have standard bumpers, (you can always wip your bumper off to give a few extra cms clearance).
Failing that it can be lifted out of the top, as I had to do because I have the stupidly big combat 2 bumpers on. The problem with this method is that its a really tight squeeze and you will have to take the engine and gearbox out in 2 parts, engine 1st, then gearbox. Although this does have a benefit as you can now inspect your clutch and replace it if necessary.

how hard is it to seperate the two while still in the car as it looks alot more hassle free than trying to get a jack and axel stands capable of that height
