Alternator belt squealing like a bitch.

Hi all,

Basically, whenever I\'m driving normally, my fan belt hardly squeals at all (maybe the odd time when its been chucking it down for ages and ages). Although I\'m not a mechanic in the slightest and i don\'t know anything about cars, I\'m thinking its called the fan-belt....

Anyway, now I\'ve re-set up my audio gear, whenever i have it on for a while, and a the bass is on constantly, whenever i go to set off from a junction or drop it down a gear my alternator belt squeals like a bitch!

But this happens whenever, weather being dry or wet, at night or in the day. Also if its squealing, as soon as i pause my music, the squealing is stopped straight away!

Does this mean i need a new alternator? tighten up the fan belt? need a new battery?......

Cheers

Adam

mine does that on the old ocassion, mostly at night.

it squeels when i drop down a gear, i normally have my heater running at night and if i turn it off the squeeling goes away. try that ?

Yeah very easy job even if your only a little bit use full. Like most things, get it fixed before it gets worse. Don\'t want to cause no damage.

it will squeal when you turn large current drains on ie lights fans etc just check condition of the belt and tightness of it
if you can afford to replace it rubber can become polished with age!

seriously mate, change it, cos I had mine squeaking for about 5 or 6 months, but only when it was wet or cold, so not squeaking very often, but ended up needing a new alternator. Don\'t know if that was the cause or what, but just get one mate only bout £5 from halfords. What engine is it? what year? Sure some one can tell u how to change it, I def can if its a 1.2 8v
