Hi all,

My brother has got me interested in modifying my Corsa Sport 16v, X16xe, 40,000 miles.
Im interested in increasing bhp/torque and am looking for about a 10+bhp increase (should smooth out the flat spots and be a little more toruqe !?). However as it\'s the family car and im over 30  we need to be able to live with it everyday and it has to be easily reselable when we come to part-x it next year.

My brother has suggested a piper air filter and a cat back performance exhasut (baring in mind we want to keep the cat and we need to keep the middle box for easy resale later on) - will this give me the bhp/torque gains im looking for ?

Any other suggestions very welcome.
Budget is around £5/600 + -

Raising the bhp won\'t cure any flat spots - you\'ll need to have the engine management modified for that.

For your budget, you\'d be best off getting a different inlet manifold like the Lexmaul ram induction item and a performance air filter like the Pipercross one you\'ve mentioned.

The inlet manifolds are designed to work with the standard ECU and are a doddle to fit so you\'ll come in under your budget.

Thanks for the advice..

What performance increases can i expect with a new manifold ?

I think Lexmaul quote about 10-15 on the X16 which is about right - both myself and Broster have had the inlet manifold changed, although he then went on to change the cams and play with the ECU (139bhp was his final figure), change the exhaust manifold too, etc.

Joff,

This what your talking about http://www.lexmaul.de/catalog/product_i ... cts_id=183

Do you know if there\'s anywhere in the UK i can get one from?

p.s. It\'s not going to be too loud once fitted is it, don\'t want to upset the neighbours :?

The ram induction won\'t make any major difference to your intake sound until you\'re accelerating past 3-4,000 rpm.

I think Regal are a UK importer of Lexmaul products and yes that\'s the part you\'re after.

Thanks,

Looking at Lexmaul, it doesn\'t look like the benefits of their ram induction kick in until around 5500rpm - not so good for day to day driving.

I\'d prefer more of a kick lower down the rev range 3-4000rpm.

Any suggestions ?

I found the ram induction was better at low-mid range performance!

There are other inlet manifolds that work better in the upper rev range (dBilas, Mantzel, etc) which like you\'ve said isn\'t great for day to day driving.

If you\'re expecting anythign under 3k, then it can\'t really happen on a 16v engine due to design, unless you want to use nos or a very small turbo.

As Joff said, the lexmaul does the job for minimum hassle.

Thanks Guys,

You know what...i gonna give the lexmaul a go, with a filter, exhaust and maybe the exhaust manifold, bit more than i wanted to spend, but im hoping it will make the car a bit more lively.

Quick question though.. (and you can tell i know very little ...im over 30 afterall)

Will i need to get it tuned/serviced by a specialist or can i still take it to my usual vauxhall garage for a service ?

Thanks Guys

take it to the usual service.

I\'d say use the std airfilter, get a manifold but leave the rest of the exhuast. shoudl give you th emost bang per buck, remain nice and quiet too.

At the least change the paper element for a Pipercross panel filter. There\'s no point modifying the engine if you\'re sticking with the stock paper filter.
