1.4 sri (8valve) whistling

Help.

As i accelerate i can hear whistling (only happens when i rev it).

sounds like a turbo building up (good LOL)

what could be causing this????

leak in inlet?? pipes???

I have standard air box. Also still whistles when K&n is fitted.

Does it happen in gear or out of gear, when the car is moving or when it\'s stationary, can it be heard outside of the cabin or only inside?

I had a similar sound on mine, it turned out to be a broken bracket vibrating on the exhaust manifold heat shield.

its inside and out, stationary and moving. Its as i rev it.

sounds kinda cool.

Some cars do whistle tho dont they (induction)

my mates 1.6 gsi does a bit as it sucks in air.

So it\'s not transmission related if the car\'s not moving, so sounds like it\'s related to the intake system.

Try revving the car whilst underneath the bonnet, or if you can\'t get to the throttle linkage, get a mate to rev is slowly whilst you\'re under the bonnet.

It whistles still when i rev it from the gear linkage. Does it with clutch down as well.

Dont know.

So it still sounds like the air intake then.

You need to get your head against the engine and find where it\'s loudest.

what would happen if there is a leak in the intake manifold (going to block??)

????

my fuel consumption is pretty crap even when driving slow

Your engine would be running lean. I doubt the ECU would put in extra fuel if the leak is after any air flow sensors.
