The story so far.......
friday i thought i would change the rear brake shoes as i knew it was about that time so off i went and got some new shoes, off came the wheels and drum to find the brake cylinders were dead i tried to get the brake pipe off to find the nipple was rounded so i found myself back at the shop buying new brake pipes and cylinders thinking \"well at least the brakes will be spot on\" i put all the new brake things on set the wheel adjuster refitted the drum tried bleeding the brake no fluid coming out and i was told it was the master cylinder. So i found myself getting a new one.i fitted that put some new brake fluid in bled the brakes but now the brake pedel has loads of travel but still stops the car but me and the g/friend dont like all the travel of the brakes what could be making the pedel travel so far??????
when i was refitting the brakes i dont think the brake adjuster is ajusting itself as when the brake is pressed and depressed i couldnt hear the ajuster setting itself if this is why the brakes feel like crap how do i sort it out as i know the brakes are all fitted properly
by the way the corsa is a 1994 corsa swing 1.2

i just went through about 90% of what you have just mentioned with my corsa. i.e nipples rounding off, master cylinder etc. Was a right fook on (1993 corsa)

As for your problem. I had it as well, but my dad fixed that. i shall ask him when he gets his arse home and see what he says!

......Mind you since we did all that and took it for the mot, the brakes all scored 100% each! Suprised the mechanic in the garage that one

Right, i dont know if this will make any sense to you, ive just rang my dad then see, the things i do for this website, cost me flaming 38p that call!

Anyway, he said you have to take the brake adjuster out and then lube it up, as the lack of lube stops it from working. Do this with a penetrant oil,not wd40 as it drys out, and then put it back and it should work...... one not to make is do not use too much as you dont want to get it on the brake linings.....

There is also an adjuster in the bottom of the pedal which can be set to preload the brakes,( i.e. always keeps the play on) but be careful not to set it too far as it will put the brakes on permanatly.
