Thats probably the best way to start.

If you go for alloys try and get a set of Vaux ones as it won\'t affect the insurance too much. I got a set of Cav GSi wheels for £40 from a local car boot.

Yes true, plus you\'ll surely scrape a few curbs so you dont wanna be scraping expensive alloys! lol - headunit, air filter and backbox sounds good. i never had alloys on my first car, i just mainly used it for getting used to driving and havin fun in it and basically killed it going off road and driving like a nutter!

Im under my parents policy and our insurance company allowed alloy wheels aslong they were not over 2\'\' bigger than the standard size. :)

For the first mod, I\'d recommend an induction kit (Pipercross of course!).

It doesn\'t affect your insurance - but STILL inform them. 99% of insurers will just say ok, it\'s now on your policy, etc.

It helps to give your car a bit more poke through the gears and makes it sound a bit nicer to boot.

It won\'t do anything to the exterior of the car, so wouldn\'t make the car any more desireable to theives (unlike wheels, exhausts, headunit, etc).

It\'s the cheapest out of all the other mods (unless you go for cheap and nasty wheels or ICE).

Once you\'ve got the filter on, then get the exhaust - a backbox will be fine.

well if i may give some advice over the last 15 years of tuning and styling cars i\'ve seen some poo and i\'ve seen some corkers if you want a nice lookin motor go for what we call the sleeper look, colour coding, smoothing the cars lumps and bumps out, getting it\'s ass to the ground is good, subtile but effective changes that make people look and nice, insted of oh waht a mess of a motor the mod\'s really are up tp you depends how deep the pocket is ( right guys) at the end of the day u got to drive her and pay for her upkeep.

good luck m8

The only problem with that is that a lot of insurance companies do like to increase the premium with any changes to the suspension. Plus you should really go for a full lowering kit, then if you went for the cheap one it would lose any comfort, etc.

first thing i did to mine was 6x9s, like mr.feza says its easy to scrape a set of new rims, this happened to me today when i was driving to work, accidently hit the kurb just comng out of teh village i live in, a lorry was coming the other way and there barley room to get past so ended up putting a nice kurb mark or 2 on the new rims. :x

take the rub strips off the doors and the badges as well... simple and it costs hardly anything (depending on what you use to get the glue off)
