Customising a for EG: combat kit n making it ur own???

ok, dont go about making ur own kit.. u wont have the materials to do it properly. it will almost certainly turn out poo!

the best bet is to pick whatever kit u do like, no matter if its not for ur car and leave it into a bodyshop and they can fit it by cutting it to shape, or even u cud cut it to shape urself and make it fit

yea use ur std bumpers and make it using that that what i did.

plenty of fiberglass and filler and mesh and foam this is a rough guess but here goes

with blueprints to hand take off a bumper
take some mesh and filler a small peice of it onto the back of the bumper do this all the way along and wait until dry

fold over mesh and repeat above process on the front

bend and shape mesh untill near enought the shape you want

take your expandible foa and spray in into the mesh so it in side it

once foam has dried take a knife and shape until it a rough shape for what you want

the put a thin coating of fiberglass over

then put put filler on and smooth down

in theory this shooul work unless you wnat to make a mould of your bimper and do it that way?

get some rubber glvoes aswell cos that filler is a bitch to get ouff

no offence but this is sounding to be a really tacky idea, for a start 10/1 it will probably look poo, amd secondly your going to be getting a lot of attention from the police. however if it all fits than i dont see the problem

o rite well you prolly wont have any probs then, but its just that i heard of something that bodykits have to conform to uk safety regulations, not having bits sticking out etc if you know what i mean lol, but not every coppers going to know every corsa bodykit on the market are they. so like you said theyll be lucky to do for it, but if the coppers having a bad day they might. you just dont know

what your planning wont work

Ur plannin on using P40 or an equivalent fibreglass bridge filler - its not fibreglass

U need to use fibreglass matt;

Ive fitted several non car specific kits ( ie a kit for a evo) onto an escort - at SR we use a combination of biaxial matt and chop strand matt - laid in alternative layers, with a correct level of poly or epoxy resin ( depending on the price quoted)

Our kits fit 100% correctly and dont suffer from mis-alignments - and they will not crack - rather than u-pol or p38 fillers we make our own filler using baloon inhibitors and resin. Even then we still choose to autoclave our products - to give heat tempering or hardening - to give additional improved inherent properties

Ur plan to lay a thin coat of p40 ( fibreglass filler - the stuff in the tin) will be shocking - it will be almost impossible to get an even spread and even then - it will be almost never flat and impossible to smooth

Fibreglass gets its strength from the woven or chopped glass strands, ( using biaxial matt gives excellent compressive,torsional and sheer strength) ur using tiny shards of glass mixed with poo pink resin - It JUST WONT WORK

P40 is also a pain to sand down - it needs really to be ground into shape - and then have easy sand applied over it to get its shape


Overall i would say you dont have the necessary experience or technical ability to attempt what your planning - Personally I thik u\'ll be wasting your time and not learning anything-ur best bet is to try and get on a part time or night class and learn from there

U also needs a suppler of matt,resing,catalyst,inhibitors, etc etc etc

I can do a guide to doing it properly if you want - btu without the correct materals or facilities - u wont succeed

i\'m actually thinking of doing my own bodykit as well. the mesh, foam and fibreglass idea is actually quite good and i might do that but as i have access to a large workshop (about 15 lathes, couple of milling machines and bench or pillar drills and also plenty of welding equipment and materials!), i was considering molding the new splitters to shape with light aluminium and then fibreglassing over that, sanding it down (prolly wit a drill attachment) and then just spraying and lacqeuring it. reckon that would work??

the whole point is that balsa wood isnt flexible and it snaps easily - hence why its so light - ur best best is to use polyeurathane foam - shape it and lay up over it - u can even leave the foam in as a core

Strength = ET^3 - where E is the young\'s modulus ( not to get to technical) but T is the thickness - basically its the overiding factor

use polyeurathane foam its much easier to work with - u could use Balsa wood block boadr as a core - but tbh the foam is far easier to work with
