1.6 Sport Needs to Beat a Punto 1.8HGT

OK, so I have been given a challenge. I now have a 1.6 sport (corsa b obviously), and my friend is getting a Punto 1.8HGT within the next year, we have a bet on who\'s car will win in a drag race. I do realise that I am going to need to do some modding in order for this to happen... so here is my next question, what exactly should I do, my budget is fairly limited, should be able to put aside £100/month for spending on my car. I don\'t want to do anything that the insurers would make a big deal out of, so no NOS (which i don\'t want anyway, afraid it will screw the car up), engine transplants, etc. What mods should I get (bearing in mind the car is currently completely stock), and in what order, I know for sure to get an induction kit, but which one do you guys is best? Also I need an oil change, so I will go synthetic and with a performance oil filter if such a thing exists as well as start using redex, slick50, and high octane fuel (w/high octane plug if i can find one) Also if you could post links to items that would be great,
Cheers
James

Well i had a 1.6 sport before i stuck the 2.0 16v in it n i wudnt of raced a hgt without serious mods tht will cost thousands! unless u use nos in witch case u mite have a chance. (until it runs out) bt u as u said u dnt want that cuz of insurance. 1.6 sports come wid 106bhp as standard stick an induction kit and a full exhaust system and your looking at around 117bhp(well mine was). costing around £350 4 both! or stick throttle bodies on adding around 30bhp n costing around £1000 second hand or carbs addin 20-25bhp costing around £600 second hand (includin labor n everythin) it aint worth it! If u wanna beat him n show him up1 get an old punto gt (1.4 turbo) they have a smaller engine by 400cc yet their just as fast with around 130bhp!!! makes no sense but true!!!!!!

Well I have looked at whatcar.com, and apparently my car is 1/5 lighter (mine 800ish his 1000ish) and i know he wants PAS, Air-Con, every single extra there is... and he will only have 24 BHP more than me and when I have dragged him before (in almost identical cars) i always beat him, well 80% of the time anyway... he never really thrashes his cars, but when there is competition i am the complete opposite so i reckon with a few mods i have a good chance, i have been thinking, decent induction kit (one that you stick a hole infront of the car for:-P), ecu remap for high octane fuel.... and when i race him i will remove the spare wheel, dump the toolbox, have a almost empty tank of fuel, maybe remove my aircon if it isn\'t too much hassle............. even if i lose I have another bet with another mate that will be an easy win, they are convinced they will beat me it their stock 1.4 8v pug 306:-P
failing that i will keep buying him mcD\'s get him as fat as possible, and then weld some random iron blocks under his car to wiegh him down a bit:-D

aswell as the the citroen ax and 2cv, the fiat range, the seicento, cinquecento and punto are the ugliets cars i think created. the Bravo isn\'t that bad, but i hate italian cars anyway, unless it\'s an alpha or a lambo. The same goes for french cars, i only like 106 rallye or gti, the rest are cheaply made, and have really poor safety rating, Corsas are sound cars, most vauxhalls are, i love mine. You\'ll find that vauxhalls are a lot nippier than the french equivalent to

If all you want to do is beat an HGT in a drag race, then choose nitrous oxide. 50bhp jets along with typical exhaust and air filter should give you an advantage.
Otherwise, you\'ll be looking at spending the best part of £1500-2000 with serious engine mods or conversions.

hmmmm.... so maybe i could go for NOS, but it scares me cos i don\'t want to f**k my car up, i have heard alot of horror stories... if i were to get a proper kit fitted PROFESSIONALLY what sort of cost would i be looking at, and what risks would i be taking of damaging the car? also would havng nitro fitted have much affect on my insurance, and is it legal..... hmmmm, i mean if there is a button to disable the nitro switch so technically the car doesn\'t have nitro, maybe it would be legal as long as it not used on the road (thats what i could tell the courts anyway:-P)

Dry shot kits cost arond £1000 fitted its not legal on the roads but if u hav it button activated you\'ll b o.k cuz the pigs cnt prove ur usin it on the road. THere is also a way of having it activated when the accelarator pedal is pushed fully to the floor bt your betta off with the button activated go 4 25bhp jets if you are worried bout engine trouble. Sum insurers r abit scared off noz so ring your insurer up n ask them. Any trouble ring a performance insurer like performance direct or adrian flux.

hmmmm.... £1k is quite alot of money, but it could be worth it, i won\'t try adrian flux since they quoted me over £3k jus for tp,f&t.... which is a little OTT to say the least, I am with quinn direct i dunno if any of you have had experiences with them, but i will give em a call and see what they say. ty for all your help guys, much appreciated.

well I will take all this into consideration, i will probably end up going into a reputable tuners/garage and say to em \"I want it upto 130BHP, heres the keys, let me know when its done, and don\'t go over £xxxx\" that\'ll sort it:-P as lazy as it is!
