ecu tuning

hi all
i have a 1.0 litre 12 valve corsa and it seems to be holdin back.
when you get to about 60 mph the engine management light comes on and it lacks power and slows down. this isnt good when you go on the motorway.
ive been told the that it could be the lamda sensor or the air flow meter which ive been told the airflow meters can go a lot with a performance air filter.
so i went into my local motor world and they said that the air filter is puting in too much air and the airflow meter cant keep up, they said i needed my ecu tuning to solve it. is this right and how much would it cost.
also do you think its the air low meter and the lamda sensor at foult or something else.
i really dont knw what to do, i need it sorting cos my mates punto can fly past me and i dont want to be slower than a sodding punto.
cheers

ECU tuning or chipping or re-mapping as its known wont do anything really i would only sugest getting this done after extensive mods to an engine, like new cams, head work, things like that.
the reason why the AFM goes is because it was never a really good designe, they go two a penny on 1.2 and 1.0 corsas so dont worry you aint alone with this.
i would do the paper clip test and check out what the code is, if its the air flow meter then it will need to be changed, fortunately you can get them off ebay for fairly cheap or go down to your local scrappers and pick one up...
lambda sensor would noty be tempremental, it would go and that would be it, the light would be on perminantly and it wouldnt come on at 60mph...
i can only suggest you do the paper clip test and find out teh code...
sorry if this isnt much help
but its all i can do without seeing the car..

thanks a lot mate
i had a paperclip test about 1 month ago and it came up saying it needed a egr valve and an idle speed control something.
i fitted these parts and it still was dodgy, would a paperclip test work even though it only comes on when your doing about 60. its not on when its idling.
do the induction kits make the air flow meter go quicker or is that a load of crap.
engine sounds really rough also. could there be anything else wrong with it
cheers

if the engine sounds rouch i would say AFM or coil pack.
AFM will kick up the Lamda sensor code aswell.
EGR valves go a lot on corsas aswell.
i would stil go with AFM tho as this sounds more like what it does,

whats the coil pack. is that to do with the ht leads or something.
thikin of a transplant also. im 17 and just passed my test. what do u think would be pretty fast but not too expensive

if you dont want it to be too expensive then go for the X16XE engine will go like stink compaired to the 1.0
im 22 and i ahve only been driving for 2 years now and im just saving 4.5k so i can get the C20LET put in mine.
should only be costing me £1700 or less on insurance which aint to bad really.
and to that effect im a mechanic and i have no no-claims and i live in a rough area.

would u have to change the gearbox aswell with an x16xe or could u leave the existing 1 on.
also how much would one cost and how easy are they to fit
cheers

if you want to put a X16XE in there you will need engine gearbox wiring loomb radiator engine mounts hubs and cv's i think its fairly extensive but it will go quicker lol
or go here

i really do want a c20let, i dont know wheather to just wait and get one of them or get a 1.6
just need more power from my car just for a year or so then i can get an engine transplant.
is there much i can do just for now or dont u think theres much point

on a 1.0 there aint much point doing anythgin to it to be honest mate, nothing is really going to make it faster.
i could sugest you get a quick shift/short shifter fitted, and a lighter flywheel (if they make one) this will make your car a lot quicker to drive but it wont add power,

so is that the guy at motorworld told me about induction kits breaking the AFM a load of crap or is there some truth to that.
its a pipercross one ive got.
also im wanting my car to be louder, is the cetre box on the corsa a silencer or the cat.
if i got rid of it would it stil pass the mot.

removing the cat would fail on the MOT on the imisions and the fact it has to ahve one lol
you can get a sport cat like i got but i think the 1.0 is far more expensive than the one on my 1.4
center section is a silencer your better off going and getting something like a ashly exhaust if you want it loud, they are made from treated steal, but boy they are loud, and they are nice and cheap compaired to there SS counterparts.
the AFM will go wether or not you have a induction kit on the car, they were just a realy crap design from vauxhall so putting a induction kit on wont make a difference.
this will be a loud exhaust system
this is the price for a sport cat made out of stainless
hope this helps

ive not long since got a ss peco backbox so i dont really want to buy a new backbox.
wouldnt you recommend gettin shut of middle box then.
just want my car to be louder but still be ok for mots and stuff

Would not matter if the light is on just so long as the ignition has not been use in excess of about 20 times since it was last on.
If you want louder then sure get shot of the centre box.

i dont know wether my center section i have sitting at work will fit the 1.0
as it was for my 1.4 if it does fit ( doughtfull tho) you can have it for a few quid
