Am I correct in saying that the alternator charges the battery.....

if so how long will I last without this as the belt broke today, and wont be able to get a new one until tomorrow night, baring in mind I have to get to work tomorrow, 45mins each way.

Think most vauxhall run water pumps off cam belt
