Hi,
My Engine management light has come on, i have tried the paper clip test and it flashes once and then pauses and then flashes twice, this is repeated 3 times.
However if i try the same with the engine running it flashes quickly about 30 times and then pauses and then it flashes about 23 times and then pauses and then once and then it flashes another 23 times and then pause once and repeats.
Any Ideas, Other than getting a garage to look at it.
Thanks
Matt

Re: Engine Management light
was the flashes exactly 30 and 23? coz there is no fault codes listed for those numbers the flashes have to be counted exact

Re: Engine Management light
HI,
I've just done the test again.
Ignition on, paper clip- Flash Pause Flash Flash --code 12
Started engine from cold, flashes constantly for about 3 mins and then pause, flash, pause, flash, flash, long pause, flash, pause, flash, flash.
But with the paperclip removed the light is still on, the only difference between running the test this time is that i haven't let the car warm up.

Re: Engine Management light
right the code 12 means initiation of diagnosis so that means that its starting to check.
now the bit where you said it constantly flashes for 3min is a bit confusing cause it should realy flash then pause for about 2 second and flash again.
so im a bit stuck with this one. heres the website with all the codes anyway http://www.topbuzz.co.uk/info/fault_cod ... des.htm#gm

Re: Engine Management light
Thanks for that, but i've looked there already.
The warning light came on after i had to jump start is due to leaving the rear window on overnight.
Could this have caused this problem?

Re: Engine Management light
it could be anythin mate try reseting your ecu. disconnect the negative (-) terminal leave it like that for an hour then reconnect.
then start the car up, for the first 20 seconds DO NOT do anything, just sit and let the car idle. The car may sound lumpy and run wierd for the first few seconds but this is because the ECU has to re-calibrate to the engine settings.
When the 20 seconds have passed and the car sounds smooth then take it for a drive, try and do the kind of driving that you normally do in your car so that it sets up your car for that kind of driving.
then maybe this could sort your problem out

Re: Engine Management light
Right, I did that, i left the battery disconnected overnight. Still the same but the car seems to be running smoother. I think the dash may have a fault as the handbrake light and fog lights light have both stopped working. I'll take the dash out over the weekend and have a look.
Anyone know how to connect the dash to a battery to test the warning lights?
