Engine cutting out

My son has a Corsa B 1600 GSI and the engine keeps cutting out after a few minutes driving on the road but will tick over quite happily on the drive. The fuel pump has been changed along with the air mass meter , fuel filter, distributor cap, idle control valve cleaned, crank sensor changed. When we take out the plugs they are sooted up but if we clean them it will then run for a few minutes before the problem start all over again. If anyone can shed any light on the problem it would be most appreciated. I also noticed his battery is not charging which point to the alternator would this have an effect on the proble above.

after it cuts out, will it start or needs battery charging?

coz when driving u need more energy from battery than when car is just idling.

When it cuts out it normally needs jumping the last time it died there was a big backfire and then nothing, we are looking at the ECU but after that we have changed most components that we can think off that might have an effect on this problem after that we are out of ideas.

pu the voltmeteracross the battery when car is just idling.. should be about 13.5 -14volts..

if much less (like 12v) then replace the alternator.. also ckech fuse for alternator :)

I have checked the voltage and all seems good, changed the ECU but still will not drive will tick over untill your hearts content but as soon as the car is put into gear and clutch out it dies. I suppose I will have to take to dealer to sort but thanks for the suggestions, I surrender!

if the gsi runs for a while then cuts out and has fowled plugs then your looking at an overfueling problem which can be alot ot things, most common is mass air, then i would try coolant temp sensor or 02 sensor, as we all know the 16xe's all had a probelm with sticky valve, do you know if the gsi is an ecotec or none?
