Speed sensor output information

Hello all,

Would be grateful if someone could offer me some information. I am fitting some navigation equipment into my corsa and need an input from the vehicle speed sensor. The sensor is on the rear of the speedo on mine and feeds the ecu on electric power steering column. I was going to join into this cable to feed my equipment.

Does anyone know what form this speed signal takes. ie how many pulses per mph or what frequency per mph.
