Re: Corsa B 1999 1.2 16V "1-7-11"
Just won this driver side L piece on Ebay.
its a bit more than i wanted to pay casue someone tried to outbid me which bumped up the price to £22 was hoping to have won it for £10.
but if searched all over for one and found them hard to find to buy single. At least thats the skirts complete now i think if i didnt win this one the skirts would have sat in my shed for months going to waste to the point were i woulda never got them on. just missing some jacking covers but il just make some DIY ones....
P.S - Gazza is good enough to hold over his GSI bumper & wind deflectors untill July so once that arrives it should really complete the look.
Few other bits i wana get are...
* New breather hose with no kink in the line.
* K&N Panel filter
* Front Fog Switch (for July)

scratch that, cause i wont have the Bumper by then, but at least i can get the rest of it fitted up maybe ? might be best waiting untill i get the bumper from gazza so that im not having to remove arches etc just to refit.
So maybe some time in July.

Bought a new breather hose today from local Vauxhall Dealer, £4.50
Seemed to make a difference to the engine right away, lower Revs, quieter, almost smoother.
also had to top it up with a bit of coolant. might look into making a Rad Fan override switch so i can flick it on when i think i need it. i think theres a guide around here somewhere.

Re: Corsa B 1999 1.2 16V "1-7-11"
Loosing coolant again ! very fed up at this stage.
Been checking for leaks and cant see any in the hose lines.
The rad fan does come on, so the temp while sitting in the driveway would start at around 90, then work its way up to 95/98 then cool back down again.
theres no signs of gunk on the oil cap etc everything still looks very clean, i cant figure it out.
could my radiator be the problem ? or something else. Please dont tell me the head gasket has gone again and that water is geting into the cylindars.

no i dont think so, i check it today, i kinda used a rag to cover the the tail pipe for a few second then i released.matty589 wrote:Do u get any white smoke out the back?
could the coolant simply be evapourating quickly ? id doubt it tho.

Re: Corsa B 1999 1.2 16V "1-7-11"
I think i might try some Rad-Weld it should seal any minor leaks if there is any.
also i wonder if the thermostat is playing up ?
at least them types of problems are easy fixed and easy enought to reach, id even replace the radiator cause its had a bit of a battering at once stage.
i cant really deal with opening up the engine again and i dont think i will.
so its all down to replaceing the thermostat, hose lines, radiator,
any other tips or advice to help ?

Don't use rad weld. Get something called k seal worked every time I have used it and don't block stuff up.

Re: Corsa B 1999 1.2 16V
Il try that instead Matty, i read somewhere its best to not pour it into the coolant tank, but instead to pour it into the top of the radiator by dissconecting one of the hose lines.matty589 wrote:Don't use rad weld. Also, i went out today again to test the car. i spent ages checking all hose lines, not signs of leaks, no damp patches in the driver or passenger foot wells,
a qualifed mechanic fitted the Head gasket and tightend it properly, the only thing i was able to do was inspect the coolant cap, and this time i tightened it a great deal so that i knew it wasnt loose.
the cap wasnt loose, but it wasnt as tight as it coulda been, so maybe thats where the coolant was escaping, even tho i coudnt see any signs of steam or water.
all i can do is maybe take it on a test drive around the town and see if coolant level drops. im sure the K Seal would still be worth puting in as my radiator is a bit battered.

Re: Corsa B 1999 1.2 16V "1-7-11"
Cars defo loosing its coolant, i heard a hissing coming from the smaller hose that goes into the coolant tank so maybe the ring clip isnt tight enough. could try replacing with a new screw clip instead. might also give my mechanic a ring and get him to do a test see what the hell is up with this stupid engine.

Re: Corsa B 1999 1.2 16V "1-7-11"
at 8:00am coolant tank was at half way point.
(drove 30mins to work - 27miles @ 60mph)
at 2:00pm coolant tank was empty with just a tiny ammount at the bottom
checked the hose lines and i noticed the smaller was hissing, gave it a tug and some water bubbles came out
i assume under the high pressure and driving at distance it must be leaking out even tho it looks like nothing
at 5:00pm toped up the coolant to half way
(drove 30mins to home - 27miles @ 60mph)
coolant tank droped back to the low point again, same as before. checked that same hose with the standard clip on it, lightly pinched the clip and it let out more hot pressure. i assume this is the root issure as all other clips seem secure.
at 8:30pm topped up the coolant to half way
replaced the clips with 2 new ones, the type with the screw not the standard pinch ones.
I will attempt to drive to work again tomorrow, if i make it to work and there is no drop in coolant level i know ive sorted the problem, if not i have booked for my mechanic to run some tests. but he said hes snowed under so if he was to fix anything i dono how long it would be before its fixed, plus i cant afford to fork out more money on repairs.
the cars engine should be running mint by this stage, so its very frustrating its playing up so badley.
