alternator cleaning?

hi people,just a quick question as the search bar answers are confusing.it seems my alternator on my corsa sport .14 99 plate has developed a whine and gets louder under load/acellerating and its always there,now the belt may not be helping cos its getting old but after putting a screw driver to the altenator im convinced its a bad bearing? the pulley dosent seem to be wobbly or no play...now my question is,i was thinkinking of giving it a spray with wd40 or some other kind of cleaner/degreaser from my rc car engine..would this attract dirt tho as ive read some say it will be ok to put wd40 because it will displace water etc while others say it will make the belt slip,im only looking to spray the pulley tho..

If your only after cleaning it u could use break and parts cleaner...
