i actually cant belive it 11 years of keeping the standard paint work almost imaculate condition and now some ( insert bad word here) has gone and dug a key into almost every pannel i want to cry

now i dont know what to do...

should i try and claim off my insurence? im fully comp but will it go up alot?

it cant be touched up decently can it? im probably going to need a full respray? :S

... anyway, is it best to just take it to a body shop and see what they say?

any ideas of how much is this going to cost me...

because its probably made my car worthless now ?

Likely to be cat D write off through the insurance and to get a top quality respray will be 2 grand.
Feel for you mate seems to be the way these days. I have done a lot of vandal repairs over the last 6 months or so.

errrm dunno really as cant really see ... best take pictures showin all thats been done then people can advise . if your in that much of a trauma get someone else to take the pics for you (Y)

First off, if you take it to a bodyshop, they'll look at it, go "ooooohh tut tut tut" and insist that the only way to go would be a full re-spay.

Have a good look at each panel individually, depending how deep the scratches go, a good ol but of T cut may be in order.

Even if it doesnt get ALL the scrathces out, there may be a couple of panels that dont need doing.

You must have some dodgey bodyshops near you. My guys will only quote for actual repairs needed.

My aunts punto got keyyed, she claimed off the insurance, got paid what it was worth.. kept the car too, then paid £150 to have it put through tests so it was no longer a write-off.. then sold the car for £650... making nearly double the money.. don't know how that affected her insurance though. If you were to change insurance company it may not be worth mentioning, it's not like you had a smash or anything..

my advice is too find whoever did it and drop him on the spot

thing is with paint mate it can range in prices dramaticly with my experience as a custom pc powder coater ive done jobs from £50-300 on a 1metre sqaure pc case, problem with cars they have a very thick layer of paint and the paint is generally very expensive

cheers for that guys.. well heres the deal, ive been quoted £500 for 5 pannels to be re done including any parking dents or small dent that might be there + for free he will fix the bumper scuffs from were i got hit and run on and also for free he will smooth my boot as a favour for the dammage not being done through the fault of myself he will do it proply not some pikey job taking off all arches etc.. not like cheap body shops and will make sure work is perfect



what do you think? i could do that or try the insurence.. but they will say cat d writen off so i dont no what would happen from there ?

my excess is 250 quid on insurence :s

If he is doing a proper job for that money the scratches can't be to bad.
Sounds like he is going to polish them out rather than paint the panels
either that or it's cheaper paint he is using. If he is painting all 5 panels and doing the other
work thats a good price mate.

Insurence have got a garrage to come and collect the car thismorning, i it will take 2-4 days to respray it because of the stages and drying times.. and how busy they are etc... gonna get the small dents filled and taken out for free whilst the works being done and might smooth my boot off for an extra 100 quid and relocate numberplate on bumper ... its costing the garrage 700 to respray the 5 pannels, tidy bumper and fill the dents... so considering some 1 keyed it both sides and i have to pay 200 pounds erxcess for a 700 quid job that wont effect no claims or make insurence premium rise.. i dont think thats a bad outcome oh and i bought real cctv for me house for 100 quid from maplin so next time we can catch them in the act!!!! ill get some shots of bodywork when i get the car back
