corsa 1.0 12v 1999 engine taken cams out does it need....
ive got a corsa 1.0 12v 1999 V reg and have taken the inelt and exhaust cams out, and put them back in exactly same position, and manually turned engine over serval times backwards and forwards, (with 25mm spaner onto water pump puller), to simulate forward and reverse motions, just incase, but have not electronically started thne engine as a bit wary to do so, if not properly timed up, but still turns over manually ok, have turned it over without spark plugs in and out, and daft as it sounds placed sticks into the spark plug holes to visually see the pistons rising and falling in sequence, (also listening out for the air entering and leaving the cavity), everything replaced, would this be safe to turn over electronically, or be too risky of re-shaping the valves, if not toally timed up to perfection, even though chain has not moved since took cams out and replaced them again? Thanks in advance.

OFFICAL DVLA DATA:
1414 - corsa gsi's on the road in 2008.
735 - corsa gsi's currently on the road and 436 SORN
Basicly you would have to be a right tw*t to break one for parts
Thanks to everyone for an awsome weekend at pvs!

If it turns over ok by hand then it should be fine to use the key. If the timing is out it isn't out enough for the valves to hit.
Why did you do this anyway?

make sure all you timing marks line up and that the tensioner is tight enough before you even consider turning the engine over with the key, if its not times up right you will bend the valves which aint a good start

Re: corsa 1.0 12v 1999 engine taken cams out does it need....
it turns over by hand ok, i can lift up the chain a tiny bit, but not enough to actually change it onto the next tooth on either cam. i did this as i began to strip down the engine to try and fix an oil leak, but on later inspection found a more probable cause for the ouil, so had to biuld the engine back up again, so hence taking them out ready to remove cylinder head, but didnt get that far so put them back in. i would look at the marks but cannot see any of them, (removed plastic part in way from the wheel arch) the tensiorner is pretty tight, like i said earlier i can lift up the chain a bit but not enough to make it jump onto the next tooth on the cam cogs, and a manual turn over and the chain is kinda rest tight again.

Ah, I can see how you are losing oil. Someone has nicked one of your cylinders.

haha, tis a bugger when it happens, one minute cruishing along fine, next minute you struggle to get to 20mph, haha more serious note, i think ive found it to be coming from the crank sensor seal round the back of the engine just above the sump, in the small iron sandwich part of it
