Idle Issues

Post by AndySweeney »

i was having idle issues ( idling at 2000rpm cold start and dropping to about 1200-1400 when heated judddering when slowing down etc ) in my corsa recently so i put it down to my k and n filter i took it out and installed the airbox again disconnected the battery left it to reset the ecu this didnt solve the problem so i replaced the maf sensor again no fix , i then took of the idle control valve cleaned it put it back in and my car wouldnt start unless i pressed the accell ... also eml on so i thought must have been my fault took it off again looked inside seemed fine put it back together eml light was gone but still wouldnt start unless the accell was pressed icv was working however as it was moving ... reset my ecu still with no help ? any ideas on this i ordered a new icv so it should come tomoz or sat but until then anybody any ideas also

is it possible my rev counter is out as i have no rev limiter ? i can easily zoom past the 7 in first and second with what seems like no struggle to my little x10xe engine ?

i'd be confident in saying that its your idle air control valve, and disconnecting the battery doesnt reset the ecu as far as im concerned, alot of people will tell you it will but doing it never cleared any of my fault codes.

usually when the rev counter is faulty it just doesnt work at all, never really herd of one doing what yours is doing. replace your icv and then see if it helps with your rev counter at all, if not then a new set of clocks could be on the cards.
OFFICAL DVLA DATA:
1414 - corsa gsi's on the road in 2008.
735 - corsa gsi's currently on the road and 436 SORN
Basicly you would have to be a right tw*t to break one for parts

Thanks to everyone for an awsome weekend at pvs!

I am having the exact same problem m8, seems like its going to cut out but doesnt and sometimes revs itself, i did the same as you took it off had a look cleaned it (thanks to a step by step walk threw on here :D ) put it all back together still not working so i took it to the garage today and had a computer connected to it, it came up with idle control valve not working. so i went to a different garage and got the parts going to put them on tomorrow hopfully it works.

Good luck though m8.
